About
Formed in Spring 2020, The Horntown Project is a group of musicians from South West London. Although a number of them have played in other ensembles together for years, it was the first lockdown of 2020 - once the appeal of sourdough and Zoom quizzes had worn off - that was the driving force for them to start recording from their respective living rooms.
Starting off as a unnamed 10-piece brass group, their first virtual recording was Shuggie Otis’s Strawberry Letter 23. They soon recruited trumpet player friend and music arranger extraordinaire Steve Wycherley, as well as flautist (Josie) and Tenor Sax (Laura) and from that point on, the virtual recordings started to flow, produced by bass player, David Shepherd.
This led to their first lockdown ‘album’, featuring nine original arrangements recorded, mixed and produced entirely in the musicians' homes. Now with an expanded percussion section, THP have been let loose, rehearsing and performing in real life as a 13-piece band at local events in London and Surrey.
Described as having ‘a great groove’ their set list spans genres ranging from Latin and jazz to funk, pop and classic soul, with a fresh and funky take on a range of hits that will get your feet tapping as well as an ever-increasing library of original works.
